Mexican Cannabis Horchata

The first time I tasted horchata (pronounced โ€œor-cha-taโ€) it was love at first sip.

If you've never tried this sweet and refreshing beverage, it's high time you did. Horchata is a staple south of the border. This delicious treat is made with rice, cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla. In fact, despite horchata's creamy appearance, it's completely dairy-free.

I've combined this Mexican classic with cannabis for a truly dank drink. 

๐Ÿƒ Prep time: 5 minutes prep, 25 minutes cook time 

๐Ÿด Serves: 8 servings

Ingredients for Mexican Cannabis Horchata:

  • 2 cups uncooked long grain white rice

  • 7 ยฝ cups water

  • ยฝ cup sugar OR ยฝ cup pitted dates (only for sugar-free option)

  • 3 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 2 cinnamon sticks (more to garnish)

  • 1-2 tsp. (10ml) of cannabis tincture per serving

  • Optional: ยฝ cup blanched almonds

Directions:

In a blender add rice, blanched almonds (optional), and 3 cups water

Blend the mixture until it reaches a fine consistency.

Next, pour the mix into a bowl and add vanilla and cinnamon sticks. 

Let this sit for a minimum of 8hrs. (Note: it should be covered)

Using a cheesecloth (or mesh sieve), strain the mixture over a large bowl. Add ยฝ cup of water to help remove some of the grittiness. 

After straining, add ยฝ cup sugar and stir.

Next, add 4 cups of water. Stir thoroughly.

Add 1-2 tsp. (10ml) of cannabis tincture per serving

Serve with ice and garnish with cinnamon sticks. 

Sugar Free Option Directions:

In a blender add rice, pitted dates, blanched almonds (optional), and 3 cups water
