5 Smart Strategies to Make Your Cannabis Blog Go Viral

By: Rachel Garland

It's not easy making a cannabis blog go viral.

While in virtually any other industry you can rely on Google AdWords, Facebook Ads, or Instagram Promotions to maximize your reach, those opportunities are off the table for cannabis brands.

Or at least for the time being.

So, is it actually possible to reach viral status in the cannabis industry?

However, it's going to take some planning, creativity, and consistency.

There is never a guarantee your blog will go viral.

There are steps you can take that will make this outcome much more likely.

Keeping reading for 5 ways to maximize your blog's reach.

#1 Do Keyword Research Before Writing

What words or phrases is your target audience searching for online?

This is one of the most important questions you should be asking yourself before writing a blog post.

You want to position your blog as a source of value for your audience.

I’ll give you an example to visualize what this looks like in action.

Let's say you run a cannabis apparel company and your target audience is women in their twenties to thirties who are into yoga, cannabis, and wellness.

What would women in your target audience be searching for to find your business?

Maybe things like cannabis yoga t-shirts, cannabis leggings, cannabis hoodies, etc.

Now, we’re going to select one of these terms and make it the target keyword of our blog.

But first, we would want to do some keyword research to see what search terms are the most relevant for your target audience.

If you’re just starting out and need some keyword help, I recommend checking out some of these handy SEO tools:

Going off this example, let’s say we choose the keyword best cannabis leggings as our target keyword.

The tees are your top selling product and a top search result on Google. Therefore, this term would be the most valuable keyword to select.

The next thing you will want to do is brainstorm blog topics using this keyword.

Here's an example:

"The Best Cannabis Leggings for Women Who Love Weed"

Selecting your target keyword and choosing a title before you start writing will make sure your blog is optimized from the get-go.

It will also give you a clear direction for your article.

And clarity is key when it comes to making a blog post go viral.

#2 Speak Directly to Your Target Audience's Needs

One of the best blogging pieces of advice I could ever give is to always put your audience's needs first.

The blog posts that go viral serve a purpose.

Whether a post is providing entertainment or the latest insights, viral content strikes a chord for a reason.

Although it might seem random, there is a rhyme to the reason.

If you want to increase the odds that your post goes viral, put your audience's desires first.

Instead of just describing what your product or service does, focus your attention on the end result.

What is someone hoping to achieve through your product or service?

Here’s an example:

Title 1: How to Make Delicious Edibles

Title 2: How to Make Delicious Edibles Like a Pro

Notice how the second title grabs your attention?

Speaking directly to your target audience's desires will greatly increase your reach.

#3 Optimize Your blogs With Engaging Visuals

Here's an interesting question...

What makes you actually click on a blog post and read it?

Chances are, the post probably has a catchy caption.

But perhaps even more importantly, the post also has an interesting image.

Because let's face it, we're visuals creatures!

Plus, there is a lot of competition for attention out there.

When you're scrolling through Facebook or going through Google, something has to be pretty damn interesting to make you stop what you're doing and pay attention.

Even if you write an amazing blog post....

If the images fall short or are absent completely, I can almost guarantee you that you can expect about half to a third of the potential reach.

Including high-quality images throughout your blog is key to going viral.

You don't have to spend money on graphics to get started.

Luckily, there are numerous free stock photo sites like Stock Free Images and Photos for Work that offer cannabis images.

While your selection may be limited, these sites are great resources.

#4 Share Your Blog Posts Everywhere

You know what the number one mistake most new bloggers make?

They come up with an amazing title.

They write an awesome blog post.

And then they wait...

And wait....

And wonder why no one is reading…

In fact, they may even stop posting altogether because all they hear are crickets.

What's the problem here?

As much time as you spend creating a blog post, you should spend just as much time (if not more) promoting a post.

People will not find your content unless you put it in front of their eyes.

Every single time after you publish a post, you should be sharing it to your networks including but not limited to:

  • Your Subscribers

  • Facebook Fans

  • Instagram Followers

  • LinkedIn Network

  • Twitter Followers

  • YouTube Subscribers

  • Pinterest Followers

  • Snapchat Followers

Each share is another opportunity for people to connect with your brand.

The more opportunities you create, the more connections you can make.

So don't be shy!

If you believe in what you are selling, there is no shame in self-promotion.

You have got to put yourself out there in order to be found!

#5 Stick to a Regular Blogging Schedule

Creating great content consistently is the best way to make your posts go viral.

You never know exactly what may make a post go viral...

If you are producing awesome blogs on a regular basis, the odds of one of those posts going viral are much higher than if you only sporadically produce content.

Search engines and people like to see consistency.

Which is why I would recommend posting at a minimum of once per week.

This has actually one of my goals with Women of Cannabiz! I want to continue and provide as much value as possible for you. And I know, the more I create content, the more I can help you.

I urge you to set some blogging goals as well!

You want to help your audience and be a leader in your niche.

Writing valuable and helpful content consistently will position you as the expert.

Plus, writing is like a muscle.

The more you practice the better you get. ✍️💚
