If you own a CBD, Hemp, or Cannabis Business and you want more people to know about your company…
You should be taking steps every day to grow your online presence.
Whether you’re running a topical company, an edible line, or you’re a wellness coach - the internet is at your fingertips.
In a matter of a few seconds, you can be in contact with your target audience.
Think about that. No, seriously think about it.
You can connect with people in your neighborhood or halfway across the globe. That is amazing!
Yes, it’s hard as hell trying to spread the word when you’re dealing with the stigma, legalities, advertising barriers, you name it.
But that shouldn’t stop you. Let it drive you.
With passion and perseverance you can grow.
I want to share with you three simple but actionable things you can do everyday to build your cannabis brand online.
Keep reading for the full breakdown.
#1 Provide Valuable Content Consistently
The number one way to grow your online presence is to create valuable content - aka helpful things for your audience.
Think of things like videos, blog posts, graphics, how-to guides, tutorials and more.
You may have noticed I talk a lot about content here, and there’s a reason.Whether you want to call it content or awesome shit, you need to be sharing things with your audience.
A lot of cannabis brands make the mistake of posting but not creating original content. Or, they’re posting but it’s not relevant to their audience.
I’ve made both of these mistakes before.
To be blunt with you, people are following you for a reason. The most powerful impact you can make is being yourself. You have to do what feels right to you.
That being said though, you do need to consider your audience.
Sharing a picture of your dinner every night on your CBD topicals page is going to confuse people.
Now, that doesn’t mean you should never share your life. Just make it relevant.
For example, snap a pic of your plate and upload it in your stories on IG, asking your followers if they have ever tried infusing CBD into their meals before. Or, show your CBD infused dinner and share how you felt before and after.
You see where I’m getting at with this?
Be a source of value for others.
When people see that you’re helping them, whether it’s by teaching them something or making them laugh, they will support you.
#2 Create Community By Building Relationships
If you want to grow online or off, genuine relationships are key.
Chances are, you’ve probably heard this before.
Buzzwords like community and influence are everywhere these days. But what does this actually mean?
The same thing it did a 100 years ago. People buy from people they know, like, and trust.
If you’re not building relationships, you’re missing the point. That’s really one of the most rewarding parts about working in the cannabis industry.
So, what are some practical steps to take to actually start building genuine relationships?
Make the first move! Seriously! I’m especially talking to those of you starting out. When I decided to pursue the idea of writing about weed full-time, I didn’t know a single person in the industry. I was a recent college grad, living in North Carolina, trying to figure out how to make a living working online after quitting my startup job.
The odds were not in my favor.
No one was going to come knocking on my door. I knew that if I wanted to pursue this, I needed to bring something to the table and reach out. The same goes for your cannabis company.
If you want to build relationships, start making those connections by offering value.
I want to share with you a few simple things you can do every day that can help you make deeper connections and grow your online presence:
Be Responsive - Show your audience you’re there for them. The silent treatment is a turn off. A short but genuine response can have a big impact.
Share the Love - Are you commenting on other people’s posts? Engagement goes both way. A few minutes a day of leaving real (NO SPAM) comments can lead to new contacts, relationships, and clients.
Ask for Feedback - You don’t have to guess what your audience wants, ask them. This will not only give you a better idea of how you can help them but it can also give you a better understanding of who they are and what their needs are.
Applying these simple but powerful tips will help your cannbrand flourish online.
#3 Always Keep learning
Do you know what holds most cannabis entrepreneurs, creatives, and bloggers back?
Besides legalities (enough said) the fear of perfectionism can be crippling. But I believe the deeper issue here is a lack of self confidence and placing too much value on the opinion of other people.
The truth of the matter is, no matter what we are doing in life, we will always make mistakes.
Look, I’m a writer and I cannot tell you how many times I am high on Instagram and have noticed a typo the next day. Shit happens.
Yes, put your best foot forward and be on your A game when it counts most.
The best way to learn is through trial and error. We can read about it, watch it, and hear about it. But until we do it ourselves, we don’t really know.
What I’m getting at here is that if you seriously want to grow your CBD or Cannabis business this year, then you should be pushing yourself to be the best you can be every single day.
There is always more to learn! No one knows it all.
The cannabis industry is constantly changing. It’s up to each of us to stay up-to-date. Investing in your own education is one of the wisest investments you can make. Knowledge pays off for a lifetime.
And the more you learn, the more you can give.
These are just a few ways to grow your CBD or cannabis business online.
