Only 91% of plastic ever gets recycled.🚫To make matters worse, plastic is not biodegradable. It can take hundreds, if not thousands, of years for plastic waste to break down. . How much damage will it do in the meantime? 😶 . Plastic pollution is poisoning our planet at an alarmingly fast rate.📈 ONE MILLION plastic water bottles are purchased every minute around the world. Experts estimate that if plastic pollution is not restrained, by 2050 the oceans will have more plastic than fish.☠️ Yet, the solution is right in front of us... . Hemp is a sustainable crop that offers numerous environmental benefits 🌱Not only can hemp produce 100% biodegradable plastics – it is also naturally pesticide-resistant, reduces carbon dioxide emissions, and supports forest conservation. (In fact, this is just the beginning of hemp's capabilities!) ♻️Industrial hemp is an incredibly versatile plant cultivated for thousands of years. It was not until the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 in the United States did hemp start to become criminalized. Why? 👉Hemp was a major threat to emerging industries like synthetic-fibers, paper, and plastic production. The Nixon administration then followed with The Controlled Substances Act of 1970, making all forms of cannabis (including hemp) a Schedule 1 substance.👈 . Today we are still dealing with the consequences of prohibition. However, hemp is making a comeback! ✊🌿People are once again realizing the profound positive impact of this once staple crop.
